What is Bakki Shower Filter?
Bakki shower filtration is a fairly new method of pond filtration in the US, but it has been popular in Japan and the UK for a while. Conceptually, the Bakki shower appears to be comparable to the “trickle” type filters that are well known in the pond and aquarium industry. But there are differences. Bakki shower designs usually consist of deep stainless steel trays. The tray is filled with filter media, and the water is delivered at the top, flows through the filter media, and drains from the bottom of the tray. The water discharged into the pond looked like it left behind a large shower head. The number of trays used depends on the size of the pond you are filtering. Depending on the quality of the filter media, one tray will filter approximately 500 gallons. Trays can be stacked on about 4 other heights and handle about 2000 gallons of pond water. If more filtration is required, a new chimney will be started. This type of filtration is a “wet/dry” method, where the filter media is constantly doused with pond water (wet); but is always exposed to air (dry).
