Problems encountered with water filtration in koi ponds

Lots of bubbles in the pool water.

This is due to the excessive secretion of mucus by the koi, resulting in an increase in the protein content of the water, and the solution foams inside the water. The reason why koi secrete mucus is generally considered to be a defense reaction to stress, and in most cases it is a problem with their physical condition.

Fish pond water bubble more, mostly due to water quality is too fat, that is, too much nitrogen and ammonia and other substances caused by, or due to the fish hit the seed will also cause, can only be adjusted through the water change water quality to solve the problem of more bubbles do not go out.

Water turns green - green algae.

Because green algae on the one hand can release oxygen through photosynthesis, absorb harmful substances in the water as nutrients to promote their own growth, so as to achieve the role of evolving water quality; on the one hand, green algae is the opening of the natural bait for aquatic animals, the growth of fish is good.

Healthy green water is tender and crisp, yet not cloudy. Excessive algal blooms can cause the water to become hypoxic and fish die from lack of oxygen. It is necessary to have a suitable oxygen boosting pump especially for hot weather conditions.

Toxic substances in fish ponds

Newly constructed concrete koi ponds should have the walls and bottom of the pond removed before use because the cement is rendered alkaline.

Otherwise, it is not suitable for koi fish to survive. The method of removing alkali from the wall of the cement fish pond: fill the pond with 0.25 per cent phosphoric acid solution, soak it for 1 – 2 days, then wash the wall with water, clean it, and then soak it in deep green water for about 10 days, and wait until the wall of the koi pond grows out of the moss before you can test the water to make sure that it is safe, and then formally put in the koi fish. When the koi fry grow to 10 – 20cm, they can be put into the pond to be raised.
